Sources for Sales Leads

Before you can start selling you need to figure out who you are going to sell to. Finding sources for sales leads can be frustrating at first. Even after things have been running pretty smoothly, you can increase your sales by looking at some other sources for sales leads.

Here are some of the places I like to look for sales.

There are plenty of sites on the Internet that sell sales leads. Do a search on Google and look at all of the different companies that you can choose from.

Another way to get sales leads is to set up a booth at a trade show or conference. Collect names and after the conference you can contact the people to follow up with them.

Have you tried selling to the government? Contact your local government procurement office and see if there is demand for your products.

Attention - Interest - Desire - Action

AIDA is a common selling technique that has been used since the 1950s. AIDA stands for attention, interest, desire, and action - four steps you can use to increase the effectiveness of your sales presentations. This information can also be used and applied to other marketing and sales communication.

First, you want to get your audience's attention. It's all about the first impression! Imagine walking through the grocery store. How do all the advertisers get your attention? Usually it's with brightly colored packaging sitting on the shelf. It could also be the brand of the product. Maybe they got your attention at home and you ran to the store to act on the desire they built up. During a sales presentation, you can get people's attention by smiling at them, looking presentable, and creating a great first impression - before they shut the door!

After you have their attention, you want to create interest in what you are selling. You don't have much time to do this (less than a minute). People are busy and if they are not interested, you'll here it before you can finish your first sentence. Tell them why what you are selling will be relevant to them.

Now that you have their attention and interest, it is time to start building up desire for what you are selling. To do this you need to understand your customer. Listen as much as you talk and emphasize benefits that your customer will respond to. Explain the details about what you are selling and how it will benefit them. Building trust with the customer is as important as anything else you do, so make sure that you don't come across as a "slimy" salesman while you make your sales pitch.

Last, you need to tell the potential customer what action they should take. If your presentation was well done, they might act without your encouragement. Usually you will need to tell them what you want them to do.

10 ways to improve online lead generation

These 10 tips are from a press release by Bryant Jones.

1. Keep it clean – Websites without a bunch of clutter and that have easy, congruent navigation generate more leads.

2. Make it quick – Limit your graphics, flash and multi-media files unless they have a real purpose.

3. It’s all about conversion – Manage your PPC and other paid ads for conversions not clicks.

4. Create trust – You will not generate leads from a website that does not radiate trustworthiness.

5. Copy is the key – Your website copy needs to be compelling, informative and lead the reader to take the desired action.

6. Pre-qualify leads with content not questions – If you need a certain demographic lead, make sure your copy spells it out clearly.

7. Shorter forms actually make for better leads – Highly qualified and highly educated prospects guard their personal information; keep forms short and only ask the minimum number of questions.

8. Make it easy – Have a form on every page, or at least on every page that it makes sense to have it on.

9. Sweeten the deal – Try and give away free information to entice visitors to fill out your form.

10. Communicate in the right language and add personality – Using plain language that communicates the personality of the Company will build trust and rapport.
